Evangelistic Tips

The Key To Finding Your Purpose

Do you ever wonder what your purpose is here on earth?

Do you ever ask God why you were created a certain way or why you are so unique?

While each one of us has a God-given purpose, we need to know what it takes in order to pursue and fulfill it.

What is the key to finding true purpose? In one word: “Evangelism.”

You may be asking at this point, “What is evangelism?”

Evangelism is the act of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. This good news is also referred to as the Gospel.

When it comes to evangelism, we all have two responsibilities. The first part is accepting the Gospel and establishing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In having a relationship with Jesus Christ, you can find hope and forgiveness for your sins.

If you're wondering what you need to do in order to accept the Gospel, it's easy. The Gospel can be summed up in four points.

1. Sin

The Bible tells us that we all have issues. Have you ever told a lie, gossiped, thought about getting even with someone, insulted someone, or even stolen a pen from work?

The Bible calls these issues sin, ( Romans 3:23) and there's nothing we can do about it on our own.

In fact, the Bible says there is a major consequence for sin, ( Romans 6:23 ). The wages of sin is death. This means there had to be a death in order to take care of sin.

2. Solution

Many of us try to get to heaven based on our good works or deeds, but the Bible tells us that we can't get to heaven by works. Since God required a death, He gave a solution through Jesus Christ (John 3:16) .

3. Substitute

The Bible tells us that God loved the world so much that He sent His Son to die for our sins, ( Romans 5:8, 1 Peter 3:18 ). He was the only One who could satisfy the death penalty. Jesus Christ became your Substitute. He took your place on the cross.

4. Saving Faith

This is more than everyday faith. Faith means you trust in something you can't see. You weren't there when Christ died, but His Word says it. Saving faith means you are trusting in Christ and His death on the cross to pay for your sins. You can't work your way into heaven nor can you be good enough (Ephesians 2:8, 9). Christ did all the work for you. All you have to do is rely on this to pay for your sins. Once we trust in Christ, we become a part of His family and we have come into a new relationship with Him,
(John 1:12)
.

If you have accepted what Christ has done by faith, tell Him thank You.

Thank Him for:
Loving you
Forgiving you
Dying for you
Making it easy to accept His Son by faith

In accepting Christ, we are building the foundation for our purpose.

The second thing we must do with the Gospel is to share it. If you knew someone who was dying of a fatal disease and you had the cure for it, wouldn't you want to give it to him? (I hope your answer is “yes.”) It's the same way with the Gospel. People are dying daily of sin. They are dealing with broken lives, broken hearts, and worst of all, a broken relationship with God. It is God's desire for all people to be saved and to know the truth about who He is. In sharing the truth with others, we are pleasing God and building on the foundation of our purpose. How? Because we are seeking Christ first and for this reason, He will give us direction for our purpose in His time,
(Matthew 6:33).

Are you now wondering where you should go from this point?

  1. Start reading the Gospel of John (the book after Mark and before Acts.)
  2. Share with others what God has done for you. This is called a testimony.
  3. Pray that God will lead you to a church.
  4. Join a church that teaches from the Bible and will help you to grow in your relationship with Christ.
